Anxiety and Fear Since the Shootings

If you are not safe sitting in a class room, where are you safe?

We think we are safe if we do the right things, be good and be careful. But we are not really safe anywhere no matter how “right,” “good” or “careful” we may be.

Out of control events and behaviors can occur anywhere at any time. 9-11 turned America's world upside down. School shootings and everyday violence can happen anywhere. If we are not safe sitting in a class room, where are we safe?

The answer is, "Nowhere." Safety is an illusion. This is the reason humans have so much anxiety. This is the reason children get so scared and so anxious.

The real world is scary.

If you do not experience anxiety and fear, you are not in touch with what is going on around you. Or inside of you.

There is a huge difference between unhealthy anxiety and healthy fear. In order to take care of yourself, you need to know the difference so you can response properly in the moment to what is really happening around you. Get ready for the real world. Be prepared with inner security. Emotional health gives you an inner sense of safety. With emotional wellness, whatever is happening outside of you cannot turn your world upside down.
